My name is Baboo Monibhooshanan Nair and I like
to be called
Dr. Baboo
softly and sweetly. I was born in India in a
place called Thiruvattar, which is located in the Kanyakumari
district at the south most tip of the country.
I was brought up
in Trivandrum which is the capital city of the Kerala State
where I
had my education at the Fort High School, Mar Ivanios College and
College of Agriculture before I obtained my B. Sc. in
Agriculture in 1959 from Kerala University and left Trivandrum
for working as an Agricultural Supervisor in an Agricultural
Research Sation in Viramgam located in the northern part of
Gujerat State. My duty was to offer assistance in planning of
the experiments and analysis of the results of plant breeding
to produce new cotton varieties. Kalyan is the variety I
remember best.
From Viramgam, I moved to Anand to study Dairy
Technology at The Dairy Science College before I worked at
Amul Dairy as a technical Officer. I had a great time at the
Dairy science College studying and at Amul dairy working. It
was at Anand I took off on my own.
I have also worked as a
Project Executive with National Dairy Development Board of
India in Anand. after having my advanced education in dairy
technology in Sweden.
From Anand I came to Sweden for higher studies with a full
scholarship from Sweden. At present I am living in a small
town in Sweden called Lund and I hope to continue to be a
professor emeritus at Lund University.
Lately I
have become a visiting professor at Centre for
bioinformatics, University of Kerala, India and Department at
Microbiology, Anand Agricultural University, Gujerat State,
India
I have special relation to Kyoto in Japan where
I lived as a post doctorate research fellow with a scholarship
from the Sweden-Japan Foundation for Research and Development
and to Quito in Ecuador where I have been collaborating with
Prof. Jenny Ruales of Escuela Politecnica Nacional since 1985
with financial assistance from International Science Programs
in Uppsala I have been a scientific adviser to International
Foundation for Science, and a member of the editorial board of
the scientific journal Food Chemistry. I continue to referee
articles submitted for publication in Medical Principles and
Practices (Kuwait). At present I am a member of the editorial
board of International Journal of Food Science and Nutrition.
I am interested in networking and I have been instrumental in
the development of LAN Food – Latin American network for food
research, FOSSNA- Food Science and Nutrition Network of Africa
and SASNET Fermented FOODS as well as Sustainable-kerala.net.Sweden.
I
am also a member and supporter of World Wide Fund, Swedish Red
Cross Society, Save the children foundation and Green Peace. I
like to visit other countries to learn about different
cultures and I have been to many countries of Europe, Asia,
Africa and Latin America. I also like to, read
autobiographies, listen to music, do photographic work in the
darkroom, cook food for my friends and play with children.
